In Like a Lion!

I can hardly believe that March will be blowing in this weekend!  Where has the time gone?  Our kids are finishing up the second of three trimester marking periods, and report cards will be distributed at the end of this month.  It's a good time to talk with your child about his/her perception of how the school year is going, and set goals for the upcoming months. 

Next week, our Positivity Project reminds us that #otherpeoplematter, and our mindset is to practice cheering others' success. It can sometimes seem disappointing for children to know that maybe they are not the winner at any given time, say of a "Bus Buck" or a "Golden Spatula" award.  It's times like these, when someone else is the winner, to practice the art of cheering others' success.  Having and expressing pride and genuine joy for someone else shows strong character and demonstrates compassion for others.  Congratulating someone else goes a long way!

Remember that our Winter Recess is next week, so schools are closed February 17-21.  Have a great week, and I hope you are able to spend some time playing games and reading books together!

Welcome Back, Winter!

Last Saturday we held our annual Enrichment Day at Onondaga Road, and we had a full house!  Thank you to all of our volunteers that helped to make the day enjoyable and enriching. 

Our annual Science Fair is fast approaching.  Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are invited and encouraged to participate!  Come to our information night this Wednesday, February 12, any time between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. to learn about the fair and get your poster-display board for your exhibit.  This will give you plenty of time to get your science experiments ready for the fair,  which is being held on March 19.  I can't wait to see the amazing projects that this year's fair will bring!

Calling all fifth grade parents... Are you interested in helping to organize some of our end-of-year events for your fifth graders before they venture off to  middle school?  If so, come join us at our planning meeting on Wednesday, February 12 at 7:15 p.m.  in the library to get the planning started.  

Remember that school will be closed the week of February 17-21 in observance of Presidents' Day and Winter Recess.  Enjoy the time with your family and friends! 

If you're like me, you are grateful for a little less snow this winter!  I'm hoping that groundhog won't be scared away from his shadow this weekend!  We shall see!

Tomorrow morning is or annual Enrichment Day.  From 9:30-11:00 a.m., students have the opportunity to participate in several different fun events here at Onondaga Road like dancing, karate, edible chemistry, coin and sports card collecting, woodworking, and many other activities. Thanks to all of our volunteers for your time and energy!

Grades 3, 4, 5, be on the lookout for an information flyer about our Science Fair.  On Wednesday, February 12, students can come to the school library between 4:30-6:30 to sign up for the fair, receive their poster display board, and spend some time researching for a project.  The Science Fair is on March 19.  Come to the February 12 information night to learn more!

After having the past two Mondays away from school, students have a full week ahead.  Mark your calendar:

·  Wednesday, 2/5 - Grades 4 & 5 students visit WGHS for a preview performance of the musical Hello, Dolly!

·  Wednesday, 2/5 - 7:00 p.m. - Board of Education meets at WGHS

·  Thursday, 2/6 - Office Brand comes to OR for CODE lessons

·  Friday, 2/7 - School Spirit Day - Wear blue and gold!
