Greetings from Onondaga Road!

It's feeling like SPRING!

Here are lots of updates from Onondaga Road School...

Spring Open House
Tomorrow night, Thursday, May 19, 6:00-7:00 p.m., you are welcome to come visit our school and your child's classroom to see samples of what we have accomplished this year!  Our school will be open from 6:00 to 7:00, so please come anytime within the hour.  After your visit inside, you are welcome to visit the ice-cream truck outside (thanks to PTA).  Please remember to come inside first and that ice-cream should stay outside after your inside tour.

Wildcat Unity Day
This Friday, May 20 is Wildcat Unity Day for West Genesee.  Please join us by having everyone wear blue and gold to show that we support and appreciate one another.  Our message:
Love. Empathy. Compassion. Inclusion. Justice. Kindness.

Grade 4 Transitions to WGMS
Our transition steps are underway to prepare our 4th graders to move to 5th grade at West Genesee Middle School!  So far, our teachers have met with WGMS counselors to share information about our students, and the counselors have visited the 4th grade classrooms to talk to students and answer questions.  Next week, on Wednesday, May 25, two more important events take place:
In the morning, our 4th grade students will travel with their teachers by school bus to visit WGMS.  They will tour the building and hear from a panel of staff and students who will share information about 5th grade.
In the evening, at 6:30 p.m., parents of 4th graders attend a presentation at WGMS with the principals and school staff.  The evening will be informative, so parents, please plan to attend.

Welcome NEW Kindergarteners
Kindergarten students newly enrolled to begin school in the fall are invited to Onondaga Road the evening of May 25 for a "Welcome to Kindergarten" night at 6:30.  Welcome, class of 2035! Wow!

Memorial Day Weekend
Please take the time to pay tribute and respect to all of our service members on Memorial Day weekend.  Also note that schools are closed Friday, May 27 through Tuesday, May 31.  Students return to school on Wednesday, June 1, after the holiday weekend.

We are so excited about our WG Special Olympics taking place a WG High School on Thursday, June 2, 2022!  We have several Onondaga Road athletes ready and excited to participate!  Classmates of our athletes will go by school bus to the big event to show support and cheer on our athletes.  Go team!

Greetings from Onondaga Road School!

 Jump, Jump...Jump Around!

Our 4th Grade Jump Rope Club showed off their moves today, and our 3rd graders watched in excitement and anticipation of becoming 4th graders some day soon!  Thanks to Mr. Lane and Miss Clark for coaching the team, and thanks to Mrs. Cook for recording this video for your viewing pleasure.  Enjoy!

Have a great weekend.
Sincerely, Mrs. Clark

Friday, April 22, 2022

Greetings from Onondaga Road!

Spring is in the Air!

Here are a few dates to remember:

#PositivityInAction
Next week we will learn about the Positivity Project character trait called "purpose."  Per John F. Kennedy, "Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction."

NYS Math Assessments
Next week, on Wednesday and Thursday, our 3rd and 4th graders will take the NYS Math assessment.

Jump Rope Club
Next Friday, our 4th Grade Jump Rope Club will perform the tricks they have been learning for their classmates!  We will record the performance and post it for all of you to see, so be on the lookout.

PTA
Our next meeting is on Thursday, May 5, at 6:30, and we will discuss plans for next month's Family Picnic (being held the evening of June 2nd).  Please come if you would like to be involved in the planning or if you can help in any way.  Stay tuned for details to be sent home about the picnic.

Chorus-Band-Orchestra Concert
Our 3rd and 4th graders will perform their spring concert at the West Genesee High School auditorium on Wednesday, May 11th, at 7:00 p.m.

OR Spring Open House
Our school Open House is on Thursday, May 19 at 6:00-7:00.  Come to see your child's classroom and the many things they have accomplished this year.  After touring the building, feel free to grab a cool snack from the ice cream truck which will be parked in the back lot by the playground!

Memorial Day Weekend (and a Bonus Day!?)
Schools will be closed on Friday, May 27 and Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.  Tentatively, plan on schools being closed on Tuesday, May 31, too, as that will be a "snow day" (unless we have an emergency closing between now and then!).

Unity Day
On Friday, May 20, we will celebrate Unity Day throughout our West Genesee School District, sponsored by the District PTO/PTA.  The flyer posted below will be sent home next week so that you can use the URL code to scan for information. Let's wear blue and gold as a symbol of unity!

Please Note: For anyone interested, here is a link to order a Unity Day T-shirt from Syracuse Swag.  Hurry though; shirts must be ordered before April 30th!

Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Jeannette Clark

OR Greetings!

Greetings from Onondaga Road
Happy Spring!

OR Staff Day
Just a reminder, tomorrow Wednesday, March 23, is our Professional Development Day for staff, and students do not come to school.  See everyone on Thursday!

Science Fair
Thursday evening, March 24 is our grades 3 and 4 Science Fair, 6:00-7:00 p.m.  Anyone is welcome to visit the fair.  Any students who are involved in the fair should come between 3:30-5:30 to set up their display.  Secret special judges will view the displays while nobody is here at 5:30... Doors open at 6:00 to everyone!

Report Cards
Your child's second marking period report card will be published Saturday, March 26 via our online Parent Portal on SchoolTool.  It is parents' responsibility to access and read your child's report card as part of our home and school communication.  This Friday we are sending home a paper copy of instructions on how to access your child's report card online.  Also,  please sign and return the note stating that you have seen and read your child's report card.  This will help us to know if there are any families who need help logging into SchoolTool.

COVID Tests
Two things you should know about COVID tests ... First, we have test kits available here at school; if you need one, just let us know.  We won't be administering them in school, but you are welcome to have a test kit.  Second, if your child is home (or sent home) from school sick with any COVID-like symptoms, we can accept the results of a home COVID test and you do not need to go for a PCR test.
Additionally, please remember that there are other illnesses that frequently spread around school, like the stomach bug and colds, so we ask that if your child is actually sick, please keep them home until they are symptom free.  Thanks for helping to keep us ALL healthy!

- Fri, 4/1 - School Spirit Day - Blue and Gold!
- Tues, 4/5 - PTA Meeting, 6:30
