Season's Greetings from Onondaga Road!

 Happy Holidays!

Yesterday, we were treated to our daytime 4th /5th grade concert.  This group is full of musical talent.  I hope you will be able to make it to their evening performance, this Thursday, December 8th at 7:00 in the WGHS Auditorium.  Their performance is certain to put you in the holiday mood!

This month is turning out to be quite a month of “caring and compassion” at Onondaga Road.
In addition, our staff is sponsoring a family in need to provide them with holiday gifts and food.
  • The PTA is coordinating our school-wide efforts to collect coats for the Cathedral’s Coat Drive and gather food and items for the Ronald McDonald House.
  • Our fifth graders will be making fleece blankets to distribute to children at Golisano’s Children’s Hospital.
  • Our second graders are creating various pieces of art to donate to a program entitled, “Artwork for Wounded Warriors”.  The art will be distributed to hospitalized soldiers this holiday season.
We owe thanks to Coach John Desko, who recently read a book to all our students on the topic of "Thankfulness".  He is our second “VIP Reader” this year (Dr. Brown was our first reader in October).  We are indeed grateful to these adult role models who take time out of their busy days to inspire our students.

Finally, stay tuned for our next newsletter where you will hear about some wonderful achievements by many of our students.

Wishing you all the best this holiday season!

Happy Halloween! - News for Today's Events

Waldo has been found at Onondaga Road!!

For years the world has wondered, “Where’s Waldo?”  Well, I am pleased to say he has been spotted here at Onondaga Road!  Can you find the REAL Waldo in the bunch??? J

We are looking forward to our parade this afternoon- looks like the weather will be cooperative.  Hope you can join us outside for the parade at 2:00.

Just a reminder that only those on our sign-in list as helpers will be allowed down to classrooms for the parties.  Also, don’t forget to sign your child out if you are taking him/her home.  Only parents/guardians may take children home unless we have a note from a parent giving permission for another adult to sign-out a child. (Photo ID will also be required for any adult we do not know.)  Thanks so much for your cooperation with our safety rules.
Wishing you all a safe and fun Halloween tonight!

Happy Fall from Onondaga Road!

Hopefully by now you have had a chance to read our newsletter for October.  It is packed with information that will help your child thrive here at "O Road" this month!

Thanks for your attendance at our September Open House.  I am hoping you found it informative and helpful.  Shortly after Open House we were treated to not one- but TWO assemblies for our students.  The first one, sponsored by PTA, focused on fun ways to stay fit.  The second assembly was co-sponsored by PTA and the District and dealt with the important issue of bullying.  You can see from this picture that the topic was presented through an interesting and engaging multi-media presentation.

Thanks to our PTA and to our District for your continued support in bringing these educational shows to our students!

Two important meetings are coming up next week:
1.    Our PTA meeting is on Wednesday, October 12 at 6:30 in the Library.
We encourage current and new participants to join us!
2.   On Friday October 14 at 10:15 to 11:00, I will be meeting with volunteers who will work in our school this year.  The purpose of the meeting is to welcome you and inform you of procedures we follow to help make your volunteer experience productive and enjoyable.  You should have received a letter home with a slip to return to let me know if you can make this meeting. If you did not receive it, please let me know.  If you are unable to attend this orientation meeting, I will make other arrangements to meet and provide you with the information.

Enjoy the next few days – it looks like we will be teased with a bit of summer again.  Personally, I will take whatever we can get before winter sets in!

Two Upcoming Events

Greetings from "O Road"!  Following is some important information on two upcoming events:

Open House- Thursday, September 15 from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Our teachers and I are looking forward to greeting you here at Open House tomorrow!  Teachers will hold two identical sessions from 7:00-7:30 p.m. and then again from 7:30-8:00 p.m..  This will allow those of you with two children in our school to attend a session with each teacher.  Here are some tips to make your Open House experience informative and enjoyable:
  • This Open House is for adults only.  Teachers have a good deal of information to share and while we love our students, their presence is distracting at this particular event.  For those of you new to us, please know that in the spring, we will hold another Open House that is open to the entire family!
  • Our side parking lot is for staff only.  Parking for parents is available along the outer circle, side streets such as Kent Place, Blueberry Lane, Beverly Drive, etc.   Also, overflow parking is available at the church located across the street. Please be careful not to park in fire lanes, spaces for the disabled, or on grassy areas in any of the above locations.
  • Please join us for our PTA meeting in the library at 6:15 p.m.  This is a great way to hear of the wonderful programs offered by our PTA. (As just one example of how PTA supports us, I have included a picture below of a student participant at our school-wide PTA sponsored assembly today entitled, "Fitness is Fun!")  Your membership and involvement in PTA is encouraged!
  • If you have not yet signed up for SNN (School News Notifier) please stop in the library where Mrs. Rozniak will help you sign-up online.  It is simple, easy to use, and will provide you with alerts to school, closings, events, communications such as this blog, and more!
Race for Respect
The 13th Annual Race for Respect will be held at noon on Sunday, September 25 at the high school.  If you have not yet registered with us, be sure to register soon.  (Feel free to call us if you need another copy of the flyer we sent home.)  Your t-shirt(s) will be sent home once you are registered.  I hope to see many of our families at this wonderful community event!

With Best Wishes on this Beautiful Day,

Off and Running!

Welcome to my first blog!  We are off and running at Onondaga Road.  Children are adjusting to their new routines and we are looking forward to our Ice Cream Social on Monday, Sept. 12.  Our PTA has organized this yearly event which will feature community groups (e.g, our fire and police departments ).  And of course -lots of free ice cream will be on hand.  I am looking forward to seeing our new and returning families at this fun event held from 6:30-8:00.  In the meantime, enjoy this cute picture of one of our kindergartners - the joy on his face is contagious!
